Redditch United maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a draw away to Hitchin Town. Alex Cameron opened up the scoring, before Callum Kane equalised for the visitors late on.
Jimmy Fry named an unchanged lineup from the draw with Stratford Town. New signing Harrison Hazard was named on the bench, whilst Omari Brown returned to the squad.
The first half-chance fell to Shzem Whyte-Hall early on, as he cut inside from the right and beat two men, but his cross was unable to meet anyone. Then Aram Soleman hit a freekick just over the bar from the edge of the box.
Robbie Bunn played a penetrating through ball to Whyte-Hall in behind the Hitchin defence and he rounded the keeper, but the linesman was quick to raise his flag for offside.
In the 26th minute, Redditch would take the lead after the cross into the box was headed off the bar by Whyte-Hall, before Alex Cameron was there to smash in the rebound.
The home side began to apply pressure on the Reds defence, and Rory Brown was forced into a good stop from close range to deny a volley from Daniel Stokoe.
However, Jimmy Fry’s men regained the momentum and entered the break holding on to their lead.
Hitchin started the second half positively and continued to break the lines with direct passing. Redditch had become sloppy in possession and were unable to keep the ball.
Their pressure nearly paid off, as the freekick was whipped in and a Canaries header flew just over the bar, before Rio Deall curled an effort wide.
The visitors enjoyed most of the ball for the rest of the second half and eventually their dominant spell would pay off when Callum Kane equalised for the visitors in the 77th minute, after he received the ball on the edge of the box, took a touch to set himself, and fired in the equaliser past Brown.
Redditch were attempting to play direct and launch long balls forward, but the ball would not stick with them enough to create anything of value.
Eventually, the referee blew for full-time to seal another point for the Reds and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
