Peterborough Sports Match Report

Redditch United were forced to settle for a point away at Peterborough Sports in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Tyler Bruck and Joel Shambrook have us the lead twice, before Harvey Williams’ injury time worldie snatched a point for the hosts.

Jimmy Fry made four changes to the lineup from the FA Trophy win over Bedworth, as Danny King, Tyler Bruck, Joel Shambrook and new signing Stan Straw were named in the starting XI.

The first effort of the game fell to Szhem Whyte-Hall who found himself on goal, but his shot was saved by Thomas Jackson.

In the 11th minute we took the lead when the ball pinballed around the box, it fell Tyler to Bruck, who turned and smashed it into the top corner to make it 0-1.

Rory Brown was called into action shortly after, and did well to palm away Luca Miller’s swerving effort, before a sprinkler had activated and unfortunately sprayed the away fans behind the goal.

A Redditch cross came in from the left hand side, and Whyte-Hall nearly doubled our lead with a backheel flick, but it rolled just wide of the far post.

The game began to heat up, and a Peterborough coach was shown a yellow card as we entered the break.

HALF-TIME: Peterborough Sports 0-1 Redditch United.

In the 53rd minute, Harvey Williams took a tumble inside the box after a foul by Stan Straw, and the referee awarded a penalty. Michael Richards stepped up and tucked away the spot kick to equalise.

Just four minutes later, Joel Shambrook drove forward from deep and launched a superb effort from outside the box, which hit the back of the net to retake the lead.

It was fairly quiet for the rest of the second half as the teams battled it out. Leon Lobjoit came close to connecting with Williams’ cross and nearly equalised.

However, the hosts did find their equaliser in unfortunate fashion for Redditch, as the corner was cleared and Williams’ first time volley from 30 yards out flew straight into the top corner and seal a draw between the sides.
