Today, 2nd April, is World Autism Awareness Day, which aims to promote the acceptance, support, and inclusion of autistic people and the advocation of their rights.
Redditch United will become a meeting place for the North Worcestershire Autism Parents Support Group with their first session being on Friday 4th April. The sessions are free to attend and offer dependable peer and professional support from those who truly get it. Whether that be sharing your challenges, or your experiences to another parent, asking advice regarding diagnostics, education and Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)(mainstream/specialist/EOTIS/Home Education or none at all), it is a welcoming group.
The group is voluntarily run and is a parent-led initiative which has grown significantly in the previous 8 years, now boasting over 1,100 members in their Facebook group. They have a large network of associated professionals and contacts that they liaise with and that they can call upon to assist us or provide information, including Chris Bloore MP. Tracy, who co-runs the group with Susan, is an independent Occupational Therapist with a particular speciality in mental health. Susan, approaching the post-16 transition, offers the experience of so many years of battling the system. Together, Susan and Tracy, along with many long standing members, welcome friends, old and new, to join the group to face the day, with whatever it brings.
