“Obviously, we are delighted with the result. A fantastic result against an in-form team that has only lost one game in their last nine.
We were very aware of the threats they pose and how strong they are. I think they can be a little disappointed in the result because they gave a good account of themselves. They put us under quite a bit of pressure at times and controlled periods of the game. We were having to rely on counter attacks for our opportunities as we couldn’t get the ball back at times. Our press was off, lacked cohesion, intent and energy, but take nothing away from Leiston, they moved the ball well. When we got the ball back, we had to attack from deep, which is fine because we have been good at that all season. We have lads that can cover ground at speed, and it was no coincidence that Robbie popped up with another goal with a trademark run into the box. Kingy did really well for the second goal and showed great composure to set up Alex.
The second half was a little more even, and after the sending off, we got a little more control of the game, which also coincided with the introduction of Matty Warburton. His reverse pass set up the goal of the game into Locks (Loughlan) and another reverse pass to free Luke Ward. All in all, a huge result, especially with everyone winning around us, keeping our position in the league and still with a game in hand. Five games to go, and it is in our hands.
What is really impressive is that the lads have gone to Royston away, Tamworth away, and the Leiston at home in 7 days and are still producing results. A tough game on Monday, and we will need all your support to get the lads firing again.”
